Are you feeling worried or too serious? You’re not alone.
In his book „How to Stop Worrying and Start Living,“ Dale Carnegie offers timeless advice on managing worry and anxiety. Despite being written over 75 years ago, the book remains relevant today, even without references to modern technology like PCs and cellphones or AI!
The first thing that stays with me is, to paraphrase, imagine the worst, accept it if there is no choice then calmly try to improve on it. And do not cry over spilt milk.
Secondly, as an operational problem-solving guy, this struck a chord with me: When analyzing worry, define the problem, find the cause, identify the solutions, choose the best solution and implement.
Thirdly, the eight magic words “Our life is what our thoughts make it”. This is very Buddhist – taming the monkey mind.
To stop worrying, new habits and mindsets need to be formed. I have a new habit that is following the guidance in “Atomic Habits” by James Clear © 2018 and his 30-day program. A habit is not a new year’s resolution, making a habit is hard work e.g. every day do something cool for someone to put a smile on their face.
